During these unprecedented times, the Eskaton team is working around the clock to support the well-being of our residents, help families stay informed and share recommendations on ways to assist older adults in our region to help reduce the risk of exposure. Here are some ways and resources to support safe social distancing and shelter-in-place situations.
Food Delivery and Pick-up
- If you are an older adult, request a family member, neighbor or friend pick up groceries on your behalf.
- Utilize a grocery delivery service. Walmart orders can be placed by phone or online. Call your local store to inquire or call their general customer service line: 1(800) 924-9206.
- Take advantage of reserved hours for adults over 65+ and other at-risk shoppers at some grocery stores. Safeway is currently open specifically for older adults every Tuesday and Thursday from 6am-9am. Target is reserving the first opening hour every Wednesday for older adults, and offering customers the opportunity to fulfill online orders at their drive-up window. Raley's is also offering a senior essentials bag for $20 for pick-up every day of the week.
Health and Well-Being
- Review upcoming medical appointments. Talk to your doctor about rescheduling non-urgent appointments and, if possible, requesting a telehealth appointment, which is still covered by Medicare.
- Call your local pharmacy and request that your prescriptions be delivered to your door. Many major pharmacies are currently offering this service for no additional charge. Call your local CVS or Walgreens for more information.
- The risk for social isolation is increased during this time. Consider joining Eskaton’s Telephone Reassurance Program that connects volunteers and older adults by phone (1-866-375-2866). The program is free and calls can be made up to seven days a week.
- Call and stay connected with family. Consider trying to use FaceTime or GoogleHangouts to keep in touch.
- Maintain your healthy habits. Practice self-care by aiming to sleep for seven to eight hours each night, eating a wholesome and nutritious diet and exercising. Need some inspiration? Follow these healthy living at home tips:
- Go on a walk in your neighborhood, work in the garden or try these simple exercises at home to keep your body moving.
- Learn something new and take a class online through the Great Courses or escape in a world of art and culture by taking a museum tour
- Get lost in a good book or sign up for Audible to listen to all the latest best sellers.
- Make new friends. Pick up the phone and call the Telephone Reassurance Program and connect with a volunteer who is eager to get to know you.
